Patrick Mailer-Howat

Patrick Mailer-Howat became involved in his profession as it began in his late teens with him listening to a lecture given by his father who was a director at the World Wildlife Fund in England. His father was speaking at a conference about the environment in the early 1970s. It was a very gentle presentation on conservation and the impact it had on the environment at large and how the environment would be impacted without humans. This was before climate change was brought to the attention of the public. He complimented his father at the end of the lecture; however, his father reminded him that actions speak louder than words, and action requires funds. That stuck in Mr. Mailer-Howat’s mind. He recognizes that we can all have the best of intentions but it’s not going to have any change unless there are plans, which most often require funds. Heeding his father’s words, he set out in his career to make a difference in this respect.

In 2007, Mr. Mailer-Howat became the co-founder of the Rio de Janeiro-based company, Vita Bioenergia Group. Since 2017, he has served as the Executive Chairman of the VitaBio Group, helping to uphold the company’s mission statement to produce low carbon sustainable plastic polymers with zero price premium. The company strives to drive environmental transformation by replacing the raw material input, not by changing processes in the value chain. The company is focused on creating the most economically-sustainable green raw materials for the plastic and fiber industries. The company shares Mr. Mailer-Howat’s vision on uniting legislators, consumers, investors and industry professionals in ensuring the best outcome for all.

Prior to Mr. Mailer-Howat’s involvement with VitaBio Group, he served as the Managing Director of the International Planning Group, as Director of International Equity and Sales with Instinent Corporation, as the Senior Vice President of Equity Sales at ING Baring Securities and as Director of International Banking with the First National Bank of Boston. Earlier in his career, Mr. Mailer-Howat garnered experience as the Vice President of Brazilian Sales with the First National Bank of Boston, as Head of Commodities with the Equator Trader Services Ltd. At HSBC Group, as a partner and investment manager of Mailer Walker International Limited and as a commodities trader of J.H. Rayners Limited. He graduated in leadership from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Camberley, England in 1974 and later received a certification as a chartered financial analyst from Baruch College. In addition, M. Mailer-Howat served in the British Army as a lieutenant from 1973 to 1977. He considers the highlight of his career to be raising funds for his work.
